Playground

Learn how to use the chatbot playground to test and improve your chatbot.

The Playground is your testing environment where you can chat with your chatbot and tweak its behavior in real-time. It's the perfect place to experiment with different settings before deploying your chatbot to your website.

How It Works

The Playground is split into two sections:

Left Sidebar - Here you can adjust your chatbot's AI settings:

  • AI Prompt: The instructions that tell your chatbot how to behave, what its role is, and any guidelines it should follow
  • Creativity: A slider that controls how creative or reserved your chatbot's responses are

We strongly recommend keeping Creativity set to 0.0 for most chatbots. This ensures your chatbot provides accurate, consistent, and reliable responses based on your AI prompt and knowledge base. Lower values keep responses focused and predictable, which is essential for customer support, FAQs, and business use cases.

Other Temperature Values:

  • 0.1 - 0.3: Slightly more varied responses while staying mostly consistent. Use only if you need minor variation in phrasing.
  • 0.4 - 0.6: Balanced variety, but less predictable. Generally not recommended for business chatbots.
  • 0.7 - 1.0: Very creative and varied responses. Can produce unpredictable or inaccurate information. Only use for creative/entertainment chatbots.

Right Side - A live chat interface where you can:

  • See how your chatbot looks and behaves with visitors
  • Test conversations to make sure responses are what you want
  • Preview your chatbot's initial messages and overall appearance

Testing Your Changes

As you adjust the AI prompt or creativity settings in the sidebar, you can immediately test those changes in the chat on the right. Just start typing messages and see how your chatbot responds.

The best part? Your changes stay in the Playground until you're ready. Nothing gets saved to your actual chatbot until you click "Save to Chatbot" at the bottom of the sidebar.

Saving Your Changes

Once you're happy with how your chatbot behaves:

  1. Review the chatbot status indicator at the bottom - make sure your knowledge base shows as "trained" (green badge) if you're using one
  2. Click "Save to Chatbot" - this applies your AI prompt and creativity settings to your actual chatbot
  3. The button will only be enabled when you've made changes that differ from your saved settings

Tips for Using the Playground

  • Start with a clear AI prompt - Describe your chatbot's role, personality, and what it should focus on. The more specific you are, the better results you'll get.

  • Test edge cases - Try asking weird questions, testing limits, or simulating real customer scenarios to see how your chatbot handles them.

  • Keep creativity at 0.0 - For reliable, accurate responses, always use 0.0. Only adjust if you have a specific reason and understand the risks.

  • Check your knowledge base status - If your chatbot has a knowledge base attached, make sure it shows "trained" before testing. Untrained knowledge bases won't provide document-based answers.

Changes in the Playground only affect the chat preview. To see them on your live website, make sure to save your changes and that your chatbot is properly deployed.
